Best Film of 2006

I was supposed to do this earlier in the year but I have been overwhelmed by life’s expectations of late (moving to 20 hours per week at work, taking on one regular class and three upper-level classes, and joining a couple of extracurricular groups on campus.) As you can see from the last blog post, I’ve been away for a few weeks. Perhaps waiting to make this list is better because I didn’t get to see some of the best until recently. Here I go (wish me luck!)

  1. Little Miss Sunshine
  2. Happy Feet
  3. Babel
  4. The Devil Wears Prada
  5. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
  6. Bobby
  7. Inside Man
  8. Children of Men
  9. Hollywoodland
  10. V for Vendetta

2006 Movies I Need to See: Pan’s Labyrinth, Casino Royale, Dreamgirls, The Queen, Letters From Iwo Jima, An Inconvenient Truth, A Prairie Home Companion, Notes on a Scandal, Marie Antoinette, The Illusionist, and Little Children. I will update the list when I rent ALL of these.

Ugh. I want to see Dreamgirls and Notes on a Scandal as well. Good predictions. I too thought Borat would be in there somewhere. Oh well. What did LMS win again? Was it Best Writing?

  2. Jacob says:

Dreamgirls got so much buzz when it came out and it was supposed to get a Best Picture nomination. Anyway, Hudson gave, I hear, a really great performance so I’ll be renting that the day it comes out.

LMS got Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor - Alan Arkin. Now let’s see how long it takes you to read this comment way in the back here. ;)

Didn’t take me long. ;) Ah yes. That’s right. Alan Arkin was brilliant. Hudson did give a great performace. With all the press junkets she’s been doing–I’ve seen tons of clips. Her voice is amazing. She beat out I don’t know how many women for that part. :) This all has to be surreal for her. Getting turned down by American Idol–then going home with an Academy Award.

*sigh* Jaaaaake! How come you aren’t updating this anymore?? I check at least once a week if not more, and each time, I am left with sadness. *sniffle*
